Rogue Designs is an architecture and interior design practice near Oxford, offering a comprehensive, design-led service from concept to completion. Established in 2001 and led throughout by Charlotte Holmes and Paul Turner, we work on high-end, whole-house renovations across Oxford, Oxfordshire and the Cotswolds, bringing architecture, interior design, landscape and bespoke furniture, made in our own workshop, together under one roof, so your project stays with one close team from first sketch to final detail.

We consider every element, from the grand masterplan to the finest interior detail, with a particular love of period, listed and conservation-area homes and a commitment to sustainable, low-carbon design. Above all, we listen: to the needs of our clients, and to the stories of the houses themselves, crafting personalised, thoughtful homes that are as practical as they are inspiring.

Fairness and respect lie at the heart of how we work. We collaborate closely with our clients, consultants and craftspeople, so that every voice is heard and every decision is well informed. Sustainability is integral to what we do rather than an afterthought: wherever we can, we repurpose historic elements and choose materials with low embodied carbon, mindful of the resources a project uses. Above all, we design spaces that endure, not only visually but ethically.

Rogue Designs is founded by designers Charlotte Holmes MA (Oxon) and Paul Turner BA (Hons). Originally graduates from Oxford University and Winchester School of Art respectively, we joined forces to create Rogue Designs back in 2001, and have enjoyed building up a wonderful body of work and experience ever since. As we are both practicing artists and sculptors, we bring a uniquely considered aesthetic to all of design work.

Our projects are diverse in scale and type: we’ve designed tiny artist’s studios and masterplans for rural estates. We work with architecture and design projects ranging from full scale restoration and renovations of country homes and listed buildings in conservation areas, to reconfiguring private residences, to commercial works such as designing clubs, bars and restaurants.

Typically we lead your entire project, interpreting your requirements from the first stage of the design process, and conducting a feasibility study to establish the scope and shape, and creative direction of the project, and subsequently building the appropriate team around it to make it all happen.

We work across Oxford, Oxfordshire and the Cotswolds, including North Oxford, Summertown, Jericho and the surrounding villages, on both residential and commercial projects.

We have a stong track record of successfully securing planning permissions for our clients, and are supported by a trusted network of external consultants who provide expert advice on structural matters, listed buildings, planning regulations, and sustainability.

Each project will have it’s own tailor-made package of services based on the scale of the project and your requirements.

what we do

We cover a wide range of design elements, understanding the different requirements across the design field from commercial to residential work, bespoke commissions and consultancy. From period home to new build, we will find the personality of your property and bring the best out of it for you. We design from an artistic perspective, relishing new challenges and interesting schemes, but importantly to us we make homes with our clients, working with them to achieve a harmonious balance between aesthetics, personality and comfort, and protecting and enhancing the valuable asset of your property.

We work closely with all of our clients, relishing the dialogue, communication and interaction and engagement. We want the end result to be unique, well-designed buildings, which reflect something personal about the people we work with.

We are privileged to work with some really fantastic engineers and specialist designers. We can offer architectural services in-house, or work with your appointed design team. We are so happy to have built up great working relationships with skilled craftsmen and trusted tradespeople along with some of Oxfordshire's finest building contractors, so fulfilling the construction or delivery of design work from concept through to the finished article is always a pleasure and offers yet a further level of confidence for our clients.

A part of our drive is to showcase and introduce our clients to new works; makers and designers of furniture, lighting or fabric for example. This is achieved by our research and passion for some of the beautiful work we see around us. This is often exciting for all concerned and historically has created strong bonds for future commissions. 

our environmental policy

We embrace the opportunity to minimise the environmental impact of each project and incorporate sustainability measures in all our work. We want our work to be built to last. We are always seeking to research and implement sustainable technology and aim to operate a low waste policy, and mitigate harm to the environment. We never see this as a constraint; it’s an opportunity to explore the natural world and bring that into our designs, and it’s an exciting time to be in construction with a raft of new technologies to implement, and an incredible depth of history for craft and historical techniques which can be deployed in new and innovative ways.

As part of our commitment to sustainibility, we also bring our craft into a project called Willow Coppice, regeneratively growing and coppicing willow for basketmaking, sculpture, and nature recovery. Find our more about this project and our sculptures here.
